AGOSCI Conference 2017

Another fantastic AGOSCI conference has been and gone, so we'd like to share some of our favourite parts of the 2017 event held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. It was a great opportunity for our national team to get together, with our consultants Penny, Leanna, Merryn, Ben and Freya joining Nigel and Jeff to showcase our products at the Liberator booth. We were excited to share the release of new Accent vocabularies, easyChat and Unity 2.0, and announce our Sydney AAC Summit happening on March 15th and 16th, 2018. Nigel, Leanna and Merryn were also part of the speaker program, sharing our language systems & implementation ideas with enthusiastic delegates.

The highlight of the conference for the whole team was seeing so many familiar faces included in the program of speakers. Fiona Given’s keynote session, ‘Being part of the AACtion’, reminded us that having little or no speech can be less understood than other disabilities, and it is our responsibility to “educate randoms” – just as Fiona introduced Minspeak to a “random” lawyer at her workplace! Throughout the 3 days, the Liberator team often had to divide and conquer in order to attend all of the brilliant presentations by people who use AAC. We can’t wait to see everyone again next year at The Summit 2 in Sydney, along with ISAAC on the Gold Coast, not forgetting the next AGOSCI Conference in Perth, 2019.
