Commonweath Grants

A guide to grants available from Commonwealth Government agencies can be found through GrantsLINK. GrantsLINK is a comprehensive website managed by the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government offering direct links to existing information on Commonwealth Government grants programs. GrantsLINK makes it easier to find suitable and relevant grants for community projects from the many Commonwealth grants that are available. The site can be browsed by subject, agency or grants name or searched by key word. GrantsLINK also offers advice on finding the best source of funding and on writing application forms.

The Grants and Services Finder maintained by the Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts lists over 1400 grants and opportunities for cultural organisations from local, state and federal government as well as private sources.

The Community Portal provides information for community groups in Australia including a selection of links to sources of grants and funding.

The Australia Council's Arts Funding Guide provides an overview of their funding programs and other forms of support for the arts in Australia.

 

State Grants

New South Wales

Community Builders has links to funding sources, both State and Commonwealth.

The Area Assistance Scheme is a regional development program funded by the Department of Community Services providing support to local governments and organisations who develop ways of improving community life.

ArtsNSW offer grants to cultural and community groups involved in artistic activities.

Department of Education and Training Community Grants Program

The Community Development and Support Expenditure Scheme is funded by gaming machine revenue from NSW clubs. This website provides information on the scheme and guidelines for applications though projects are supported and decided upon by local committees.

 

Victoria

The Community Support Grants program was set up to ensure that a proportion of Government revenue from electronic gaming machines in hotels is available for community projects. It is a significant source of funding for projects at both the local and state level. The grants finder provides comprehensive information on state government supported grants as well as the guidelines for applying.

The Department of Planning and Community Development's Victorian Volunteer Small Grants Program offers small grants for not-for-profit community groups that involve volunteers.

 

Queensland

Queensland Government Funding Opportunities provides a grant finder with links and details for a variety of government grants.

Community Awareness Grants are available for groups involved with natural resource management.

Queensland Local Government grants

South Burnett Local Government Association provides links and information for predominantly Queensland sources of funding.

Queensland Community Foundation (QCF) is a public charitable trust set up to serve the state's communities by providing a permanent funding source for charity.

Building Supportive Communities Grants Program provides funds for projects that are aimed at involving

people with disabilities with the broader community.

Western Australia

The Grants Referral Directory lists grants and other assistance programs by category.

Western Australia's community grants and funding

Lotterywest distributes the profits from lotteries to the community of Western Australia .

 

South Australia

The Service SA Grants Directory provides the most comprehensive listing of grants available in the state. Arranged by category as well as funding agency.

South Australian Grants register is maintained by the Department of Trade and Economic Development. Allows you to search for a grant or other type of financial assistance from across local, state and federal government (and some philanthropic) sources.

Community Grants is a listing maintained by the Department of Families and Communities and provides a grants finder for community grants.

Community Benefit SA is one of the state's main programs offering funding for projects assisting community service agencies.


Tasmania

Tasmanian Community Fund makes both general grants to community organisations as well as for particular initiatives which improve the well-being or assist in the social, environmental and economic development of a particular community.

The Tasmanian Government Office Commonwealth Funding Alert Service. The Tasmanian Government Office in Canberra has built up a database of information on approximately 400 federal funding programs.

Charitable Organisations Community Support Program uses funds provided from the Community Support Levy taken from gaming profits in the state to assist projects by organisations registered as charities.

 

Northern Territory

The Community Benefit Fund provides small grants as part of its Community Development Grants project aimed at assisting community groups.

Northern Territory Heritage Grants Program

Youth Engagement Grants administered by the Office of Youth Affairs provides funding for projects which engage young people and the wider community.

Alice Springs Town Council Community Grants are offered for both community organisations and specific initiatives.


Australian Capital Territory

Community Support and Infrastructure Program provides grants to projects aimed at strengthening the community either through assisting in their operation or in the building of facilities and capital works. This site contains links to the guidelines and application forms.

Community Development Services Grants administers a Carer Recognition Grants Program to support carers in the territory.

Multicultural Grants Program

Seniors' Grant Program for organisations and events promoting the active community participation of older people.

Sport and Recreation grants

ACT Health Promotion Grants provides funding for community, arts, health and sporting organisations to assist in the creation and management of health promotion activities.

Non-Government Organisations

ANZ Trustees provides a listing of a wide number of funds and foundations providing grants in different areas.

APEC Education Foundation offers grants for community building education projects in countries who participate in the APEC Forum.

Australian Charities has a selection of links for fundraisers and a database of contact details for major Australian Charities.

Australia's Open Garden Scheme provides grants for garden-related community projects.

Australian Ethical Investment Scheme provides grants to community groups annually.

Charities Aid Foundation allows charitable organisations to be placed on a registry to be matched with corporate donors and sponsors.

Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund Local Grants Program aims specifically to assist community groups with projects that improve the health and well being of children and young people nationally.

Comic Relief Australia grants are managed through Volunteering Australia and are available for a wide range of not for profit organisations.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal aims to take a leadership role in assisting regional, rural and remote communities to respond to social, cultural and economic change. The FRRR administers a number of funding programs and grants.

The Foundation for Young Australians is a not-for-profit organisation committed to investing in excess of $3 million each year on providing opportunities for young people with specific funding for projects involving Indigenous youth.

Friends of the Australian Communication Exchange Support Program (FACES) provides funding for projects by nonprofit organisations which benefit the deaf, hearing or speech impaired in the community.

The Givewell site provides a comprehensive database of Australian charities, giving strategies, bequests, charitable trusts and corporate philanthropy, as well as links to charities and related sites.

Landcare Community Grants are funded in partnership with Australia Post and provide grants for projects aimed at improving the environment.

Macquarie Group Foundation supports groups and activities in Australia and overseas.

The Mercy Foundation provides support for organisations involved in reducing inequality and poverty in Australia .

The Myer Foundation and The Sidney Myer Fund

NRMA Insurance communityhelp grants: grants for crime and injury prevention, emergency services and the environment. In South Australia the program operates under SGIO and in Western Australia under SGIC .

Optus Connecting Communities Grants Program provides grants to organisations to help reduce social isolation and to reconnect disengaged youth.

Perpetual Trustees Australia

Peter Brock Foundation provides funding and support for community groups and organisations with a focus on welfare services, social issues and community programs.

The Ian Potter Foundation

The Reichstein Foundation funds projects aimed at assisting disadvantaged communities.

The Telstra Foundation provides community development grants for projects particularly aimed at children and young people. They also provide assistance through their Indigenous Community Development program and Social Innovation Grants.

Westfarmers makes contributions to community-benefiting activities through its corporate office and through subsidiary businesses. Applications for small donations such as gift vouchers should be made to individual business outlets.

Westpac Matching Gifts Program matches donations by employees to charities dollar for dollar.

Woolworths provides support to local community organisations and charities.
