DESCRIPTION:This event takes place over 2 full days | 26th and 27th of Augu
 st from 9:30am to 4:00pm\n\nCourse Synopsis\n\nLAMP is an augmentative alte
 rnative communication (AAC) approach designed to give individuals who are n
 onverbal a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves 
 through a speech generating device. This course will cover the components o
 f LAMP: readiness to learn\, engaging the learner through joint engagement\
 , and learning language through a unique and consistent motor plan paired w
 ith an auditory signal and a natural consequence. Discussion will include h
 ow this approach addresses the core language deficits of autism\, device fe
 atures that are beneficial to teaching language\, and how to use those feat
 ures to implement LAMP components. Videos will be used to illustrate the tr
 eatment components. The language structure of the LAMP Words for Life lang
 uage system and use of features to support language learning will be explor
 ed using iPads with the LAMP Words for Life App.\n\nCourse Outline\n\n 	Com

 the implications of how interference in this system disrupts speech and lan
 guage development.\n 	Discuss implementation strategies for teaching autist
 ic people how to use AAC.\n 	Discuss strategies for analysing the efficacy 
 of communication treatment.\n 	Identify how to modify the person's current 
 AAC system and use device features to support language learning.\n 	Analyse
  the current expressive language level of an AAC user and give suggestions 
 as to the next step for expanding language and vocabulary.\n 	Describe how 
 to provide access to vocabulary across settings and activities to promote r
 eadiness to learn and generalisation.\n 	Give examples of appropriate level
 s of prompting and modeling to develop independent communication.\n\nPlease
