With deep personal connection to AAC and nearly a decade of dedicated service, Freya brings both heart and expertise to her leadership role. As our Consultant Director, she combines the unique perspective of growing up with AAC in her family with professional speech pathology knowledge, creating an inspiring vision for our national team. Her genuine passion for the AAC community shines through in everything she does, from mentoring consultants to championing meaningful change across Australia.
How long have you been part of the Liberator community?

“I’m part of the furniture at Liberator Australia! I first started as the sole WA Consultant in 2016, and I’ve watched the Consultant team expand vastly over the last 9 years (when I first started we had a team of 4 Consultants, and in 2025 we currently have 14!). I now have the privilege of leading the National Consultant team in my position as Consultant Director. I get to work with the most inspiring team, who pour their heart and soul into their roles of supporting our AAC community.”

What’s one thing we need to know about you?

“My older sister has a communication disability and was one of the first people in WA to use Unity® back in the 90s! Growing up with her heavily influenced my career choice, when I saw how much fun her speech therapy sessions were. I studied Speech Pathology and began working in the disability sector, where my first caseload was filled with clients who used all sorts of AAC. It was overwhelming as a new grad, but I loved every minute of it and learnt so much. I’ve always felt uniquely qualified in this field, bringing both personal experience and professional expertise to a complex area of practice for speech pathologists.”

What’s one thing we don’t need to know – but would be fun to find out?

“I love cooking and own every Jamie Oliver cookbook he’s ever released! We’re mad keen Tillies fans in my house – we recently took my girls to their first live match when the team were over in Perth. Finally, I’m a bit of a Unity® nerd – my mum even made me a Unity® 84 birthday cake to match my sister’s device for my 30th birthday a few years ago.”
