AAC Awareness Month 2025

AAC Awareness month 2025

October is AAC Awareness Month and we are here to celebrate!

This month, we are all about celebrating the incredible diversity of
communication and the amazing people who show us that there are
countless ways to connect, share, and be heard.

Read on for more on AAC, the power of good support,
and some ideas on how we can celebrate AAC Awareness Month together!

But first: What Does AAC Really Mean?

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all the ways people communicate beyond speech.     From gestures and eye gaze to high-tech devices and everything in between – it’s all communication.

The Ripple Effect of the Right AAC + Good Support

When someone gets the right AAC system and support, the benefits spread far beyond the individual:
  • Families report stronger connections and less frustration
  • Classmates learn about diversity and inclusion naturally
  • Teachers discover new ways to support all their students
  • Communities become more accessible and welcoming

Your Role in AAC Awareness

Whether you're a speech pathologist, parent, educator, or community member, you can help create a world where every voice is valued:

For Speech Pathologists: Feeling overwhelmed by AAC options? You're not alone. Our team is here to support your clinical decision-making with training, resources, and ongoing guidance. We meet you where you're at.

For Families: Starting the AAC journey can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. We're here to provide expert advice, training, and support throughout your loved one's communication journey.

For Educators: Want to create more inclusive classrooms? We offer AAC in the classroom training and can come to you for specialised programs. AAC can benefit all students, not just those with communication support

For Everyone: Simple things make a big difference – giving people time to communicate, listening with patience, and learning about different communication styles. We're here to support anyone curious about AAC with free consultations and community resources.

Let's Keep the Conversation Going

This AAC Awareness Month, we challenge you to:

  1. Learn something new about communication diversity
  2. Listen differently – notice all the ways people around you communicate
  3. Share the message that every voice matters
  4. Get involved – whether that’s booking a consultation, attending training, or simply following our journey

Communication is collaboration. It’s something we do together, building bridges of understanding one conversation at a time.
