Using Descriptive Talking with Pre-Literate Children Using AAC Systems

This webinar explores the theory and practice of the Descriptive Teaching Model, an approach that focuses on the use of core vocabulary during classroom activities and lessons with children using AAC systems. Descriptive talking is used with children who need to learn how to communicate strategically because they are not sufficiently literate to spell words not provided within their AAC systems. Collaborative strategies are provided to help implement descriptive talking in special and general education classrooms. This webinar is suitable for Speech Pathologists and Teachers.

More than a Box that Talks

Device selection matters!  Improvements in technology and forms of access by themselves do not improve language outcomes for individuals who use AAC. This presentation will discuss the components within an AAC system that are necessary for an individual to develop language while addressing the decision-making process for the supporting therapist for device selection and intervention planning.
